What makes up Europe?

Ok, so in trying to work out just how many countries make up Europe, so that I can monitor my progress with task 13 on my Life List, I am coming across lots of conflicting information.

At the moment I am looking at there being 52 Countries (listed below). . . . ?  Your thoughts would be appreciated!!

    The BBC includes Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and excludes Faroe Islands, Gibraltar, and Greenland. And also has England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Island listed as the UK. Making their total of countries 49

      Sasha, it depends on whether you want to visit every country in the European Union or the Continet of Europe – they are not the same thing.
